Luckily for you, I've put together your guide to a Paris elopement and having the most dreamy wedding day ever.
How to Elope in Paris
If you're looking to elope in Paris, there are a few steps that you are going to need to complete before having your dream Paris elopement. Things like knowing the cost to elope in Paris, how to legally have a Paris elopement, finding the right Paris elopement photographer, etc. all play a role! However, I am going to lay it out straight for you so that you can follow along easily in this guide to a Paris elopement.
Can I Legally Elope in Paris?
The most important question will be if you can legally elope in Paris. This especially applies to anyone who currently resides outside of Europe. More specifically the United States.
The short answer is yes! You absolutely can elope in Paris, however, the process will not be a quick and simple one. There are a few hoops and hurdles that you must face before being able to legally elope in Paris. However, it's definitely worth it to be able to have your ceremony in what I would call the most romantic city in the world!
However, there's a second option that many people prefer and find a lot easier. And that's having a symbolic ceremony in Paris, while legalizing everything in your home country. I'll cover that in greater detail below!
How To Legally Have A Paris Elopement
If you're wanting to legally have a Paris elopement, here are the steps that you're going to need to follow. Keep in mind that in order to Elope in Paris, there are a lot of legalities, rules, and regulations that you must follow in order for your marriage to be legally binding.
- Foreign couples must live on French territory for a minimum of 40-days to meet the residency requirement prior to your Paris elopement
- You need to move at least 6-months prior if you want to do a legal Paris elopement
- You must both provide a passport or ID
- Proof of address or residency permit in France
- Your birth certificate
- Affidavit of law (states that you're free to marry and your marriage will be recognized in your home country)
- Certificate of celibacy (proving you're not already married)
- Divorce decree (if previously married)
- Prenuptial agreement with a notary certificate (if you plan to have one)
Symbolic Ceremony For Your Paris Elopement
Now, reading these requirements you may be thinking "It's a lot". It is. However, what many couples choose to do instead is to have a symbolic ceremony in Paris. You are able to tie the knot in your home country, and then have a symbolic ceremony for your Paris elopement. You are able to eliminate all of the stress of gathering all of the paperwork and instead, enjoy your Paris elopement to the fullest. If you're not a French native, having a symbolic ceremony for your Paris Elopement may be your best option.
Benefits Of A Symbolic Ceremony For Your Paris Elopement
There are many benefits when it comes to having a symbolic ceremony for your Paris elopement. Rather than listing all of them out for you, here are just a few reasons why a symbolic ceremony for your Paris elopement may be right up your wallet.
Flexibility
One of the many reasons why couples love having a symbolic ceremony for their elopement is for the flexibility. You're able to get married anywhere (within reason, of course). The possibilities are endless. Whether you're looking for city-life vibes or a more romantic setting in one of Paris' infamous gardens. The opportunities are limitless.
Simplicity
Having a symbolic ceremony for your Paris elopement also allows you to hone in on all of the details much more simply. Rather than going through the mounds of paperwork to legally get your Paris elopement, you can focus on booking a few vendors and you're there! It eliminates half of the stress and worry so you can elope in Paris much more peacefully.
Personalize Your Experience
Again, one of the many reasons why couples choose to have a Paris elopement is the fact that you can personalize your experience. Elope in Paris how you want to and don't feel confined to the restrictions of a traditional wedding. You're able to make your elopement however you would like it to be, which many couples enjoy and actually prefer!
Cost To Elope in Paris
One of the many things that you must keep in mind before booking your Paris elopement, is the cost to elope in Paris. There are several different factors that you're going to need to take into consideration when determining how much your Paris elopement will cost.
- How much will travel accommodations be? I.e. tickets to travel to Paris, hotel accommodations
- Are you hiring any vendors? I.e. photographer, videographer, planner, florist, etc.
- Will you need to pay for any permits/tickets to go to certain locations?
- Cost of food
While there is no definitive number since everyone's budget and spending will be different. On average, couples to elope in Paris are looking to spend a total of approximately less than $10-15K.

What is an Elopement?
Over the years, I believe that the term "elopement" has had many definitions. Before, it was defined as something secretive. Something that was frowned upon, so to say. In today's day in age, however, elopement is much more widely accepted and preferred by some couples! An elopement is when a couple chooses to forego a traditional wedding ceremony. Elopements are often smaller in size and typically range from 3-4 guests maximum attending.
Elopements give couples the opportunity to have more intentionality, privacy, and romance on their wedding day compared to a traditional wedding. Not everyone may want to be the center of attention on their wedding day with a crowd of people. So if this is you, then you may want to consider looking into having an elopement!
Why Should You Have An Elopement In Paris?
There are many reasons why many couples choose to have an elopement rather than a traditional wedding. However, the real question is why should you have a Paris elopement? While I could list out a plethora of reasons, here are just a few.
It's The City Of Love
One of the many reasons why having a Paris elopement is so exceptional, is the fact that it is deemed the "City of Love". I mean, they don't call it that for no reason! Having an elopement in Paris means seeing for yourself why so many couples from around the world travel to this beautiful city. Maybe, just maybe, you will fall in love with it too.
Sense of Adventure
Another reason to have a Paris elopement is for the sense of adventure! If you love to travel and explore and see new places, then Paris has got to be one of your bucket list locations. Paris is absolutely breathtaking. From the stunning and iconic Eiffel Tower to some of the more subdued and hidden hole-in-the-wall restaurants and shops. This beautiful city has so much to offer and is one of the many reasons so many couples choose to have a Paris elopement.
Eliminate Half The Stress
Lastly, I'm sure you have heard all about wedding planning stress. No, it's not a myth. Many couples fear the thought of having a traditional wedding due to all of the stress that goes into planning such a big day. From organizing venue accommodations, and vendors, to finding your wedding attire, and scheduling hair & makeup trials. It can be a lot on two people! Eloping in Paris means eliminating half of the stress of planning a traditional wedding. Having a Paris elopement leads you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city and not have to worry about all of the moving pieces of a traditional wedding day.
