Best Franciscan Gardens Wedding Guide!

A wedding at Franciscan Gardens is definitely an excellent option for celebrating your commitment to each other. This post will cover everything you need to know about planning your wedding day at Franciscan Gardens.

Best Timeline for Your Franciscan Gardens Wedding

Below is my recommended wedding day timeline for a wedding specifically at Franciscan Gardens. Let’s say your ceremony start time is at 5:00 pm. Here’s my recommended timeline for that.

9:00 – 12:30 – Hair/Makeup at Franciscan Gardens (This start time will vary depending on how many people will be getting their hair/makeup done; typically, the bride is last)

12:00 – Photographer(s) Arrive at Franciscan Gardens

12:00 – 12:40 – Details (Dress, shoes, rings, etc.)

12:45 – 1:45 – Getting Ready Photos (One photographer is with Partner A & second photographer is with Partner B)

*Note: If you don’t have a second photographer, more time is needed here as the solo photographer will have to take extra time to document Partner A & Partner B.

1:45 – 2:45 – First Look + Couple Portraits

2:45 – 3:15 – Wedding Party Portraits (More time is needed here is there is no second photographer)

3:15 – 3:45 – Family Portraits

3:45 – 4:40 – Buffer Time (Super important to always leave buffer time within the schedule should things run a bit behind schedule. It also allows the couple to just relax more…the day won’t feel rushed.) If the timeline goes exactly to plan, the couple can use this time to relax or take extra photos. ;)

4:40 – Couple Preps for Ceremony / Photographer Documents Ceremony Details

5:00 – 5:30 – Ceremony

5:30 – 6:30 – Cocktail Hour + Couple Portraits

*The cocktail hour typically takes place during the golden hour (best time for photos because of the light), so usually about 30 minutes of couple portraits are taken during this time.)

6:45 – Grand Entrance

6:45 – 10:00 – Reception (First Dance, Parent Dances, Speeches, Open Dancing, Etc.)

About the Franciscan Gardens Wedding Venue

Franciscan Gardens in San Juan Capistrano is a wedding venue located in San Juan Capistrano and is steeped in history, with roots dating back to the early 20th century. Originally part of the larger Mission San Juan Capistrano complex, the property served as a retreat for Franciscan Friars. Over the years, the grounds have evolved, and today, the Franciscan Gardens is a premier wedding venue that has an intimate and romantic quality. Located on a 5,000 square foot property, Franciscan Gardens offers a Spanish-Style garden. It also includes an outdoor courtyard, an indoor space with historic bricks and chandeliers, and more.

I like that a Franciscan Gardens wedding offer two options for one's reception. You can have it indoors or outdoors, this way, should it rain, there is a great backup plan in place.

Who is this Venue Perfect For?

A Franciscan Gardens wedding is a great option for couples looking for a wedding venue that offers the following:

  • An intimate atmosphere. This San Juan Capistrano wedding venue is on the smaller size, perfect for intimate weddings.
  • A garden romantic area. This venue offers gardens, fountains, pergolas with florals and vines, and bistro lights.
  • A rain proof environment. If you're having a wedding during October - April, please keep in mind that it can rain. While this is rare is SoCal, it is still a possibility. With that said, a wedding venue that offers full coverage in case of rain offers peace of mind.

Pros of having a Franciscan Gardens Wedding

It's Proximity to the San Juan Capistrano Mission

San Juan Capistrano is such a romantic location with SO MUCH history. Franciscan Gardens is so close to the San Juan Capistrano Mission, which is honestly one of the most amazing place to take photos in ALL of California.

Couples who love photography and want variety can always some portraits taken at the mission.

The Food at Franciscan Gardens San Juan Capistrano is spectacular

The food is taken care of by 24 Carrots. I've attended a few weddings where 24 Carrots has done the catering and it's always super delicious. It's not your average banquet food, which I think is something that most couples and guests deeply appreciate. In fact, here is a glowing review about the food that I saw on Wedding Wire:

"24 Carrots is the exclusive caterer for Franciscan Gardens. For hors d'oeuvres, we selected mini grilled cheese served with tomato soup shooters, coconut shrimp lollipops, seared ahi on crispy wonton spoons, and pulled pork sliders. For our dinner, we started with an arugula salad, and served a duet of filet mignon and shrimp with broccolini and potato gratin dauphinoise for dinner. Every single food item was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS and had the most BEAUTIFUL presentation. Since my husband and I currently live in Chicago, we wanted to bring a taste of home to our wedding. 24 Carrots was gracious enough to make mini Chicago style hot dogs and pass them out as our late night snacks. Every detail down to the bright green relish was spot on!"

The Service is Exceptional

It just takes a basic search of Franciscan Gardens wedding reviews to see that everyone raves about their services. These details make the BIGGEST impact on one's wedding day. One wants to rest assured that their wedding will be overlooked by professional, super organized people. Franciscan Gardens provides that peace of mind.

The Ambiance of Franciscan Gardens San Juan Capistrano

I love this venue because it has a magical, secret garden type of quality. It's intimate, romantic, timeless, and dreamy.

The Venue Offers Separate Spaces

I love that this wedding venue offers 3 separate spaces - a getting ready space, cocktail hour space, and indoor space. Furthermore, this venue doesn't offer just one, but TWO getting ready spaces. I have noticed this makes things much easier on couples and their bridal parties. They can hangout, relax, get ready, and leave their personal items all in their own space.

Cons of Having a Wedding at Franciscan Gardens

Despite its many advantages, there are some potential drawbacks to consider when planning a wedding at Franciscan Gardens:

  • The venue's popularity means that dates can fill up quickly, so you may need to be flexible with your wedding date.
  • As an outdoor venue, weather can be a concern. Be prepared with a contingency plan in case of rain or extreme temperatures.
  • Noise restrictions in the area require that events end by 10 p.m., which may limit the length of your reception.

Franciscan Gardens Raving Reviews

"THE PERFECT WEDDING!
I fell in love with this venue the minute we saw it. It was our dream venue and it was the best night. Melissa and Kayleigh helped us a lot with everything and were so patient with us planning from another state. They made video calls with us and answered SO MANY of my emails with copious questions. Through it all they stayed so pleasant and professional! The courtyard was beautiful and the guests fell in love as well. We had 115 people and there was more than enough room for us to dance, chat, whatever! The cocktail hour inside was beautiful as well, with the chandeliers and brick accent wall!!

"Looking for a place that can take you to a Tuscany Garden ambiance located in SoCal? This is one of my favorite venues to paint during weddings because all of the greenery and venue textures. The staff at 24 carrot is amazing and beyond professional. Highly recommend getting married at Franciscan Gardens!"
